Accordion-Fold Arts & Culture Calendar

To promote art and culture events taking place at Lone Star College-Montgomery, a calendar is designed every semester to be distributed to the campus, and sent out to members of the arts community abroad. In years previous, a standard wall calendar had been the norm. In 2011, I was assigned this project, and made the decision to take it in a different direction: an accordion-fold typographical calendar. The calendar was designed so that it could stand, open, of its own accord on the person's desk or counter top, yet still be small enough to fold flat (folds to 5.5" [w] x 8.5" [h]), and carry with them in their backpack or purse.

Calendar was printed on a durable 80# Finch Opaque paper, so that both the texture of the paper, as well as the texture added to the background color, would be apparent. Calendars that were mailed out to the surrounding community were sent in custom-designed envelopes (at bottom), which used the ticket element from the calendar's cover in the return address portion of the envelope to tie the pieces together.

In addition to the calendar serving as a unique, informational piece of work, the change in design saved the college over $1,000 in printing and mailing costs when compared against the previous calendar.
